Two Words For is a creative literary and arts site devoted to fresh, original writing on those who came before. We publish work inspired by sources of inspiration. Specific authors, artists, movements, and events that influence writing and art today.

Please read some of the pieces that we've published to get a sense of the work that we seek. And make sure to follow these general guidelines when you submit.

Feel free to email us at editor@twowordsfor.com if you have any questions.

Fiction

No word limit, but we should know after the first few pages if something's going to fit in the magazine or not, so bring it. Whatever it is. Please include a note along with the title indicating who it's written "after." Ex: "After ______, "In response to _______," "Inspired by _______," "A love letter to ________," or "Counter ______." You can be as creative here as you want.

Non-fiction / Creative Essay

Please title (or subtitle) your work to indicate who it's on. Make it clear. Please format more (or less) academic work based on (more or less) MLA guidelines, this will save you time. Video or audio essays are also a possibility.

Poetry

Please submit up to five poems (all in a single document, clearly labeled at the start of each new poem), again no specific length or format. We'll look at anything. Spoken word performances or even stuff we've never seen or heard of before. Please also include a note along with the title indicating who it's written "after." (See above -- under fiction -- for just what we mean here).

Art

We're not going to specify what to send, only that it must be submittable via this form. We're interested in incorporating the widest range of art possible. (Again, please include a note along with the title indicating who it's written "after." See note above).

We do accept simultaneous submissions, although ask that you please inform us (as soon as possible) if your work has been accepted for publication somewhere else.

We do not, however, consider work that has been previously published.
